Default possible bad cv u joint?

Hey all, small problems are coming out of the woodwork with my new truck. When I turn sharply to pull out of a parking space it binds up almost like in 4 wheel drive but not as severe. It also sounds like there's a grinding while that's happening. Sometimes I think I hear a squeak while going straight. But not entirely sure on that one. To check the u joints you Jack up the front end and see if there's play in the joints right? Thanks guys

Play, or too stiff. If there are zerk fittings, try hitting them with a grease gun first.

Alright, I'll give that a shot. Talked to the previous owner because I got two u joints with the truck. Said he put spicer ones in and they're too snug and that's probably the problem. So I'll try the grease, if that doesn't work I'll put the duralast u joints in

Got under and checked out the u joints, driver side I can almost move it a quarter turn with the wheel on the ground, now the guy said he put joints in that were slightly larger, could there be significant damage to the axle shaft?

There are meaner joints than what came stock.... but, the caps still gotta fit the holes in the axles where they go.... so, should be able to just (yeah, right) replace that joint. Gotta dig down to it though.... pull the brakes, axle nut, hub/bearing, and then slide the axle out. Changing the joint is easy at that point.

Yeah I found a video how to do it, looks like fun ( not ) but hey, it needs to be done. If I need anything new it sucks because I need numbers for anything in the front end since a dana 44 was swapped in front

I just changed mine this past weekend (u-joints and hub bearings) and it wasnt too bad.. I would say if you have the extra money and have had the truck a while (or are going to) to change the hubs while you change the u-joints. They have to come off to do the job and sometimes they are a pain to get off. The drivers side was just a few taps with a hammer but the passenger side was a PITA!!! ended up having to use heat to get it loose. They are kinda pricey ~130-140 each from rockauto
