Default New oil pan gasket, now dipstick won't go back in.

My oil pan gasket was leaking, so I had a dealership replace it.

Now, right after the repair, the engine oil dipstick won't go back in! Never had an issue with it prior to this.

So, before I call them back up... any ideas what is causing it?

This video isn't mine, but depicts exactly what is happening. There's the first 'tough spot' which was normal. Then it hits a wall. Only, I can't muscle it in all the way, even slamming it with both hands.

What could have changed? Also, is the factory dipstick supposed to have a twist in the end of it?

Mine has a twist at the end, also, my dipstick only goes in one way. If I turn it around, it doesn't go in.

check to see if they bent your dipstick,if they pulled the pan while the dipstick is still in the engine, this can happen easily..

Ah, thank you gentlemen! Might be on to something.

I went and put a twist in the end of the stick, and it goes in with both hands now (harder still than before).

Hopefully a new OEM dipstick should fix the issue.

Is there anything that could 'get in the way' where the dipstick enters the oil pan, or is it pretty far off on its own? Just want to make sure there isn't something else they bumped or put in the wrong place.

It isn't the dipstick, its the way it is routed. It passes thru the front of block/timing cover/whatever, and then has to hit a 'sleeve' in the side of the oil pan that guides it back to the sump. I have issues with mine as well.... gotta hit it just right, or it won't go in. Not sure there is much you can do about it......

If you took it to the stealership, and it's not fixed right, why not just take it back to them and have them fix it the right way? Sounds like someone made an oops putting it all back together...
