I have read a lot about about idle jumping while in park and while in gear driving down the road. Most of them talk about faulty/bad IAC or TPS, dirty throttle body, or bad torque converter. Well here's what I have replaced and I still get the damn idle jumping in park or while driving down the road, but not all the time.. STUMPED!

1. Plugs, wires, distributor and rotor button - replaced
2. IAC - replaced
3. TPS - Replaced
4. Transmission complete rebuild about 1yr ago. new torque converter installed
5. New muffler on exhaust less than 1yr......
6. New O2 sensor less than 1yr

Any other ideas besides cat or Map sensor?

Can there be a dead zone on the throttle?

If it wobbles some while sitting at a light with your foot on the brake, that can be any of a number of things, MAP, TPS, or, simply a slight vacuum leak. Could possibly be a miss as well..... and even stranger yet... might be crank sensor. Since the trans has been out, I would be tempted to pull the crank sensor just for giggles, and see what it looks like. They are frequently victims of engine/trans R&R.

 

If you mean rpm's jumping up 200-300 and then settling down, the same as idle jumping, then TPS is still suspect. New after market sensor bad out of the box possibility.

 

I'm going to take the throttle body off and clean it and do the mod on it tomorrow. I guess I will change out the TPS and go down the list if that's not it. Bottom line is I have a few things to check. Thanks for the help. fingers crossed.

 

I had the same problem on my 97 5.2L and it turned out to be a crank sensor. It got to the point were it would die on me on the highway. While i was at i replaced the cam sensor as well. Haven't had a problem with it yet!
