1997 dodge ram 1500 5.9l 4x4 will turn over but won't fire
Ok first off, I'm new here so bare with me please. My truck has 160,000 miles on it. Just had tranny rebuilt. And have had the heads rebuilt. Only engine mod is shorty headers. My issue is I have been getting a check engine light. Comes on sometimes and goes away after a day or so. Got it checked and it's the p1391. Put in a new crankshaft sensor about a month ago. Code popped up again earlier this week. Drove truck to work this morning decided to put in a camshaft sensor also. Took distributor off with plug wires attached. But labeled the wires per its corresponding cylinder. They way the wires were on distributor didn't correspond with firing order per spec. So when I put everything back together I did everything per spec. Have checked it twice. Not a fuel issue. Now it will turn over but won't fire. Is there a different firing order? Any help would be appreciated.
The firing order is actually located on the intake manifold, it's actually 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 with 1-3-5-7 on the drivers side front to back, 2-4-6-8. You need to make sure that it's correct. You can also see an image with more info at http://ww2.justanswer.com/uploads/br..._213404_55.gif
If you removed your distributor, then you'll need a fuel sync performed on your truck. Confirm the firing order is correct and try to start it. Make sure that you set the engine to TDC and remove the distributor cap, align the rotor to the mark on the distributor for TDC when the engine is at TDC. If it fires up after this, you'll need to take it to a dealership to get the fuel sync done. Should run about an hour's labor. This will get the camshaft position sensor and the crank sensor properly synced which allows for the fuel injectors to fire at the proper time, you'll want to have this done. After that's done, you'll be all set.

Correct all I did was remove distributor cap. Didn't mess with the distributor at all. Gonna get a spark tester and try that. Yea I have the firing order per my Haynes manual. Thank you guys for the replies.
You don't need a spark tester if you don't want to spend the money. You can take a Philip screw driver and put it in the end of spark plug wire and then hold the screw driver handle with the metal close to any metal. And then have someone crank the engine for you and watch for spark.
Na man it's not amateur. Even the best slip up sometimes. Rechecked everything this morning. Was not getting spark. So instead of pumping money into I'm realizing when I have gotten flustered and time to let somebody try and figure it out. Will post when I know something. Any betting guys wanna take a stab at what they think it is?

Got it back from shop yesterday. It was out of time. Bought a timing light on the way home. Now I think it's time to change timing set. Has 160k on it and guy had it before me used it to pull a 5th wheel.
