Bolt pattern is the same. Just the transmission designed for use with a magnum engine have the cutout for the crank sensor. Gonna wanna plug that for a mud truck.

The only problem with slapping a carb on the magnum is the cost, the trucks not worth dumping thousands into I'd rather put a few hundred and move on down the road, seeing as it'll be a mud truck it dont matter.
Thousands? Your shopping in bad places.
So buying an LA and swapping everything to run a carb is cheaper than buying an intake, slapping on a carb and swapping the same things you'd swap anyways to make it run?
Ok. My bad.

Sorry I mis read I thought it was slap fuel injection on the la, but the 318 in the truck is no good and I can get the 69 la for 200. And all I gotta get is the right pilot bearing, a tech and fuel gauge, I'm ready to go with the la at 300-350 bucks

Well that's cheap enough.
But so backwards in the performance aspect of things.
Friend had a 94 Ram 2500.
I happily traded him my LA360 for his Magnum 318. He also swapped out his front and rear differentials for my 79 Dana 60 and 44.
Hes so happy. Lol
All that work for an inferior engine and no overdrive.
There is a reason Hot Rodders are swapping out LA's for Magnum's and Hemi's.
I'd find myself a 5.9L Magnum from a good candidate truck in the local "pick n pull" (~$200 around here) and take the other pieces you need to make it run in place of your 318. More power and a better engine (you have to put a value on that), and it's the same engine family you've got now (read: easier swap).
I'd say that's better than backwards investing to make the LA work. However, I do understand the desire of getting away from the complexity of fuel injection, ignition, and emissions for a future mud truck.
Something else to consider, motor mounts are in a different spot on the LA engines.
in what way are they moved. dropping a built 360 la I have into my 96 ram 1500. bolting it to an nv3500 using a towing clutch. well see what all I have to change. I'm expecting driveshaft and crossmember fab of some sort

The magnum has completely different motor mounts. The magnum does still have la mounts too. Basically, magnum will bolt directly in place of an la but not the other way around. You'll have to fab mounts
