Default 98 Ram 1500 misfire pinging from motor

Hi all, I have a 98 Ram 1500 I picked up about 4 months ago. The other day I went to fill up and on way home about 1/2 mile from gas station the truck just died. Tried restarting and wouldn't fire up I had to hold pedal down for it to finally turn over. Sounds really bad and has
Almost a knock sound coming from engine. Doesn't stay alive long and idles terrible. Tried some basics: checked plugs seemed good, put sea foam in gas tank... Nothing, someone said clogged cat pulled and cleaned found lint looking material but not enough to completely clog. Anyone have any ideas. Thanks a lot!

Start with the basics...check fuel fill cap is tight(remember you just filled the tank)...spark at plugs...fuel pump pressure, battery/alternator/charging system. I'm guessing either fuel pump or low battery/dead alternator...given age of vehicle, and the symptoms. Strictly a guess!

Looks like serious. Go with basics as shak suggested and see what happens.
