Default 96 dodge 1500 pickup is backfiring under hood?

I had a brake line rust through last week and due to my busy schedule I had to let my truck sit for about a week before I could fix it. Now when I'm driving down the road I get backfire under the hood and loss of power. It doesn't die but has a hard time accelerating. I was thinking something settled in the tank while it sat but I'm a worry wart and keep thinking its probably something els. I've never had any problems prior to this. Any input on what I need to be looking into would be greatly appreciated thank you!

Also its not a continuous backfire or loss of power it just comes and goes. I worry about getting stranded though lol.

Does it do it right away, or only after it has been running for a bit. If it isn't immediate, how long before it starts acting up?

Sometimes I can go across town and it will never do it. Sometimes I can make just a block down the street and it does it.

Try disconnecting the front O2 sensor, see if the problem goes away.
