Default noise in two wheel and 4wheel?

Hey all, I got some odd noise coming from my truck, either transmission or transfer case. In 2 wheel when I let off the gas it makes a whirring noise, kinda like the noise a semi makes when you're driving next to it on the highway. But when the rpms drop below 2000 the noise gets worse and starts rattling the truck a little. When I finally come to a stop it shutters, even in neutral. Truck is 5 speed. But in. 4 wheel the noise is there constantly, and its a lot worse. Could the transfer case fluid be low? Or the transfer case timing chain stretched? At lower rpms it almost sounds like the chain is dragging on the housing. I'm not sure how my transfer case works so would the chain be spinning in 2 wheel? 4wheel drive works to my knowledge, not sure if it slips. Any ideas? The noise isn't getting any better, and I don't want to let it go too much longer. Just started doing it last week

Stop driving it NOW!!!!!!

You need to find out what the problem is. If you keep driving it you're just going to make whatever it is worse.

At first I was going to say it was the bearings in your rear end but then your description says it is something else.

No your chain doesn't turn in 2wd. I'm thinking it is something to do with your clutch maybe. But I'm not sure why it would be worse in 4wd. Check the fluid levels in your tranny and transfer case. If they are low make sure you use the correct fluids when filling them.

I was going to do my transmission oil and transfer case fluid Tomorrow, put all new Pennzoil syncromesh in the tranny, and atf4 in the transfer case, that sound about right? If that doesn't fix it any other suggestions?

I've also read about a snap ring being broken somewhere on the tailshaft? I wouldn't think that's it because it's worse in 4wheel

I understand that but you need to catch a ride with someone or something. This might turn out to be easy to fix but if you keep driving it could turn into a very expensive repair. I have been in your shoes before. I spun a bearing on the #1 cylinder of my engine and had to find a ride to work until I could get my engine rebuilt. I know it is a MAJOR pain in the BUTT but!!! if you don't expect to pay.

Where were you when you tried it in 4wd to know it made more noise in 4wd than 2wd?

When you say shudders do you mean it feels like it is grabbing and trying to keep going? Do you have to apply more brake pressure to stop the truck?

I tried it for about 20feet in my development on the road, just to see if it made a difference. 20feet on pavement shouldn't affect it I don't think. When it shudders it doesn't require anymore braking than usual, it feels like it's about to stall except the engine rpm is constant

Does it shutter just as bad when your sitting completely still? In neutral?

Only thing moving then is your engine. So a really bad miss?

Hows it drive power wise? Rev smoothly?

It's fine in neutral. Has power and runs smooth. Just did wires. I can put it in neutral coming to a stop and it will only shudder right when I stop. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the noise
