Default 1996 Dodge Ram 2500 V10 Gen light came on and then truck died about 45 mins later.

My truck had sat all winter without being used so when I why to start it for a trip to Bear lake I want too surprised. I charged the battery and made the 1 hour drive. When I went to start the truck after shutting it off, it required jumping again. I figured I needed a new battery and could replace it when I got home. Shortly before heading home the GEN light came on so now I'm thinking alternator problems. When we got about 15 mins from town the truck completely shut down. We tried jumping the truck but could not get the truck to turn over. I replaced the battery and now the truck turns over but will not start. I pulled the alternator and had it checked and it passed. I tried checking for error codes using my CarMD but only get an error message. I'm not sure what to check next, I am thinking maybe it's my PCM but not sure how symptoms could cause that. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Try stepping on the gas a bit while you crank, see if it will start.

Alright, time to find out what's missing then.

Check for spark first. Need to check on more than one cylinder as well. The V-10 uses two modules, and five coil packs. (two on one, three on the other) Check one or more cylinders on EACH module, and might even check different coil packs on each module.

If you get spark, see if it will fire with starting fluid.
