Default Grinding

I have a light grinding noise coming from my front left wheel. A little bit ago it would only happen while turning left, now it does it when going straight too. It sounds like metal on metal grinding: I'm thinking maybe a bearing, u-joint, or for some odd reason my rotor. I haven't jacked up my truck yet to check and see if it's my bearing or not. Any thoughts on what it might be?

Does the sound change around corners? (Try turning in both directions. just not at once. )

It gets louder when turning right( not left whoops :/ ). It does a little grinding when turning left but is very minimal. Only things that changes is the volume of the sound.

Best not to speculate. Jack the truck up and check your brakes and your wheel bearings. Could be the brake pad wear sensors scraping against the rotor and/or a bad wheel bearing. Once the truck is jacked up take on hand and place it at the top of the tire and place the other hand at the bottom of the tire. Push/pull with each hand alternately to see if you feel at play/wobble at the bearing. If so, time for a wheel bearing change. Bad wheel bearings are pretty common on 2nd gen Dodge Ram trucks. Is your truck 2WD or 4WD?

It sounds like you might have a wheel hub going bad.

Check the left side first. That's the one that gets the load when turning right.

YeP I just haven't had the time lately to check that wheel. I've checked bearings before. I had the left bearing done when I bought the truck so that's probably the issue. Never done a bearing on my truck either. A-dog, my truck is a 4wd.

Yeah my front left bearing is out. Jacked my truck up and the wheel wiggled back and forth about 1/4" or so.....

So my dad's friend who works at a transmission shop gave me the price of 450-500 to do front brakes and left wheel bearing. I'm thinking of letting him do the wheel bearing and I do the brakes. Do I need any special tools for the rotors and pads or not? I wanna save myself some money but if I can't do the rotors without special tools then I'll let the mechanic do the work. Any thoughts?

What's the price difference with the mechanic doing the whole job vs. just doing just the wheel hub bearing replacement? Does that price of 450 - 500 include parts (replacement wheel hub bearing, brake pads and rotors)? If you do not have access to a good set of tools, I'd recommend letting the mechanic handle it all.
