Default Brake light & pedal

The pedal retracts too slowly consequently the light stays on too long. There is some play at the top of the pedal action that I can not so far eliminate. Year ago installed new master cylinder. What causes the resistance behind the return of the pedal to the light off point. Can I adjust either the light or pedal action to coincide?

Pedal binding on pivot? Misalignment in the linkage, causing binding? Failing master cylinder?

Well I checked the pivot point up under the dash. Nothing looked amiss. I sprayed some wd40 and some into where the shaft disappears through to the engine compartment.

I noticed with the engine off the brake light responds normally at the top of the brake action in the play area mentioned in my original message.

I need a more definitive case response before I'm going to go out and buy "another" master cylinder. I need an explanation of how to test the existing master cylinder for failure maybe

thank you

If you step hard on it, with the engine off, does it work the way it should? If it does.... may be the booster that is the problem, and not the m/c..... Grab the 01 service manual from here. Look thru the brakes section, and see if it can't shed some light on the situation.

Well I wish I had a better handle on this but I guess maybe I'll give it a shot and replace the booster.

thanks

Do the troubleshooting before throwing parts at it.

About the only option i have here in Panama is trouble shooting here online. The dealer is only setup to sell parts at a ripoff price and or adapt at selling a new pickup.

I did find a mechanic hours from here who did have a scanner for the computer, the dealer doesn't for my model. That was a help for a previous issue.

The Ram is by far the more popular pickup that is mfg in the states and on the roads here but Toyota, and Nissan dominate the market and neither of these have a hydroboost.

I use youtube videos to show the mechanics how to install and work on my Ram.

Got a smartphone? There are apps you can download, and an adapter that plugs into your diagnostic port, that lets you read codes, view real-time data, and even do data logging. I think for you, that would be a worthwhile investment.

thanks for the tip on the OBDII apps
I have an Iphone 4s
I found a product called "gopoint"
If someone knows for certain that this product can read a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 5.9l Turbo Diesel, please let me know

The company doesn't list what the cars/trucks it can read.
After being disappointed that the Dodge dealer didn't have one that worked for my older model I was alerted that not all OBDII scanners/software is the same.

obd II is a basic standard so it should read the codes no problem (may not give specific definitions)
