Default Cruise control not working

I need some help!! I have a 98 12 v dodge diesel and my cruise control went out a few weeks ago. I have done some research on what to look for.. I have check the vacuum line for the servo and it was good, I replace the switch where the brake pedal is. The cruise control light comes on but it won't set or anything. So what do I do ? Start replacing parts until I fix it or if someone has had the same problem that could relate to this that would be helpful. Thanks kirk

Welcome to DF!

Need to see if the cruise switches are working. They just modify a signal from the PCM, and the PCM interprets it from there. PCM sends a reference signal, switch just routes it thru various value resistors to clue in the PCM what you want. Make sure that part is working first.

Test at the PCM connector. That will tell you if you have a break in the wire somewhere.

You can download the factory service manual from here. Wiring diagrams are in there, and will let ya know which wires, and what resistance values you are looking for.
