Default Detroit TrueTrac or Auburn Gear?

So i have decided i am just replacing the rear all together after finding the clip chunks. I was leaning towards the Detroit Locker TrueTrac. It is also a limited slip so i am assuming it should drive the same as stock but i will be able to drive it without holding my breathe waiting for the clips to crap out again.

that is what people have been saying but it will just happen again later on and maybe i wont get as lucky and not have it wreck everything else. It will cost me around 1k for parts and labor but i have the money and to me peace of mind is worth it. Don't like replacing bad designs with a "fix" of that bad design

I mean yeah sure if you plan on keeping your truck for another 200 thousand miles. Without ever changing the diff fluid and adding the friction modifier. Yeah then your clutches will crap out again.

its no the clutch plates im worried about its the stupid clips that always brake off. and next time it might lock up the gears and blow the entire rear end out. Thats the word im getting from everyone at least.

The trash loc is perfectly fine for street driving.

Tru tracs are tried and tested.

If you want to off road just get a real locker.

I've been running a true trac in the back of my 96 1500 4x4 for quite a few years now (2007?), and would definitely recommend it. No discs to wear out, no special additives, etc. It operates smoothly, and it just plain works.

The ONLY thing (and this is extremely minor) is they want you to use non-synthetic gear oil with no limited slip additives, and sometimes you have to look a little harder to find it (they had it at Auto Zone - "Coastal" brand if I recall). The major "quick-change your oil places" (Jiffy Lube, etc.) don't carry it But it's not like you're changing the gear oil every 5000 miles. But if you're getting your gears changed they'll want you to change your diff oil after the first 500 miles.

I liked mine so much when I changed my gears from 3.55 to 4.10 I had one put up front.
