vexing engine issue - 5.9 gas running rough, not driveable
#11
I have brought my truck in to a Dodge mechanic who has his own shop, and knows all about these rigs, as I was finally at a loss. Turns out my PCM had gone on the fritz, and was throwing out ground codes where it should have been throwing 5V signals to the different components to control the engine.
Additionally, he told me that the aftermarket cam / crank sensors that I had installed simply would not have worked. Many references to this on the forum here. He stated he has worked on trucks that have had 5 crank sensors installed, all aftermarket, that would cause the problems described by myself and bynit. In my case, a rebuilt PCM was the trick. Bynit please make sure you have considered a chrysler crank sensor, as it is one part you replaced..... Anyhow, thanks to all for the input. Hope this part helps someone else. Incidentally, I was using Borg Warner sensors, and thought I was installing reasonable quality parts, but these trucks are finicky with the engine sensors.
Cheers.
