Default 360 swap

Ok guys I know there's tons of threads on this but none with definitive answers. I have a 97 ram with a 318, which is getting close to needing a rebuild, I have found a wrecked 2000 with a 360 and can get the truck a little bit of nothing. I know computer and some sensor change, but since I can get everything could I put the motor in mine..if so what all needs to be changed. ..

Thanks in advance.

flexplate/torque converter, might be easier to swap the entire harness with the motor and PCM.

Will the harness work with the 97 gauges and everything else?...I'd have to change transmission also if I was going to use the newer harness?

I think the standard is get the new engine. Then swap all your old sensors onto it.

You may need to swap the intake from your old motor onto your new 5.9 motor to put the sensors in the same locations as the old motor did. As was mentioned, you will also need a 5.9 weighted flex plate. You can use your existing torque converter, as it should not have any weights on it.

Since the 5.9 you are planning to install is used, be sure to install new items like the timing chain set, intake plenum gasket, water pump, and thermostat to ensure a long trouble-free life for your new engine.

Swap the intake, cam, and crank sensors from your current motor, to the donor. Also grab the torque converter from the donor truck. Drop the engine in, hook up your original harness, and call it a day. It will bolt right in, hook right up, and run. Will tend to be a bit lean in open loop though, so bear that in mind. Save your pennies for an SCT tuner, and flash it for the 360.

you will need to swap injectors, and most sensors to the new motor.

also the flexplate, not the tq converter. other than that, you may need to swap the intake manifold over, fix the plenum first!

good luck, and have fun!!

Starting in 96, the balance weights are on the flexplate. 5.2 flexplate won't work on the 360. (well, at least, not for very long.)

Aren't the injectors the same size?
