Default My truck is stuck in 4WD

So I have a 1995 Dodge Ram 1500 standard cab Laramie SLT, automatic transmission, manual(2H-4H-N-4L) transfer case. It's has a 4 inch lift with 35 inch pro comp tires. The other day I was out in a trail and I popped it in 4wd because of the mud. I then drove it in the mud for about 2 miles then came to a road. I used it to get up the large ditch hill and proceeded to drive for about 100 yards. Then as driving at like 30 mph I pushed the lever to 2H(which I read was ok up to 50 mph) but it didn't switch, and I tried again later, in neutral and in park. I then tried the backing up methods(multiple)and it is still stuck in 4H.

I would bet that the t-case disengaged, but, the front axle did not. (that is what activates the light.....) Check and see if you are getting vacuum to the OUTBOARD port on the CAD actuator.

Welcome to DF!

Default stuck

Sometimes sticks pull off the vacume lines .or they rot from rust and fall off.

The cad defaults to 2nd mode iirc.

Crawl under it and see if the linkage is still attached to the shifter.

In a pinch you can pull the front drive shaft to get it safely to a place you can work on it.

Not exactly sure which, but on the CAD (central axle disconnect) one vac line engages, the other dis-engages.

What is Otbd?
