Default nv3500 transfer case fill plug

Anyone have any brilliant ideas to get it out without ruining the plug? Haven't checked it ever since i bought it and would like to. Tried to get it off but i think the allen key starting rounding the plug...didn't want to push further. Any ideas welcome, thanks guys

Tried the 3/8 extension, ever so slightly too big. Keep em comin. Whole reason for this is i get a sound when i let off the gas. Best way to describe it is a grinding. Its not the trans cause that was rebuilt last year. The transfer is leaking, so it might be out of atf

See if the hole isn't dirty.....

Is the hole square? Is the outer edge round? Or hex?

The NP231HD transfer case takes a 3/8 Hex socket for both fill and drain plugs. The NV3500 uses a much larger hex head.

Cleaned the hole first time, didn't do anything. It's a 10mm hex key, and it's in there so good it slipped once and i didn't want to try it again, don't want to strip it. Had the noise since i bought the truck, but with all the problems I've had recently it's starting to bother me, especially with a 300 mile round trip to school

Don't mean to turn this thread around, but i read that if i step on the gas and my 4x4 shifter moves a lot the trans mount or engine mounts could be moving the drive line and causing the noise? It would have to be engine mounts cause my trans one is brand new. Engine mounts look fine though. Only does when in gear and off the gas, when in neutral no noise. Back to the topic, went out and tried again and still can't get the plug out

Hit it with chems, then, tap it with a hammer. Do that a couple times. Stick you hex key in there, tap IT in with the hammer, and then try and break it loose.

Either that, or go to the parts store, get a 10mm hex key that uses a 3/8ths ratchet. Can get more leverage with those.

Ended up getting it with an old lacrosse shaft as a breaker bar and pushing in on the key with the other hand to make sure it wouldn't slip. I meant the np231 transfer case, just slipped my mind and put the trans and i didn't realize it lol. One of those days 😝Thanks for the input guys
