Default 1997 ram 1500 sound from rear end *video*


the sound only happens when in a drive gear and sitting still. it does not happen when im moving and it doesnt happen when in park or neutral. any help is greatly appreciated.

It sounds like a heat shield for the exhaust or something is vibrating. Climb under the truck and look for anything that might be loose.

i said the same thing, sounds like a heat shield. but if it was just a heat shield, wouldn't it vibrate in park in neutral as well?

Not necessarily. Slight difference in RPM's may cause it to resonate / vibrate. Have seen this happen first hand

found the root of the noise. it was the heat shield. one of the welds on the further back shield had broken loose and was vibrating. so i got a chisel and hammer and got both heat shields off. noise is gone thanks guys
