sorry about that, i hit tab then enter and it cut off my post...

anyway, i lost my liscense for 6 mos. because i was clocked doing 128 down a strip of road about 1/2 mile long drag racing this camaro. he was clocked somewhere in the range of 110 and got careless driving instead of drag racing.

you need to take it to a dealer and have them mess with the timing, thats what is holding your engine back and feeling like you have no extra power.

Anyone know if there is a speed and/or rev limiter on the 2001s?

I don't know how you guys got your trucks that fast but they are either seriously modded, or your going down a mile long straightaway, or you bsing. Mine starts swaying around 85 or so but still not too bad it takes forever to acclerate when around 85 also. The 33" MT's and 3" don't help but still I am not at all impressed with this truck in terms of how fast it is.
I don't know what kind of problems you are having. Just last week I had mine up to a 100 fairly easy, after that it takes a lil while to pick up but also on this day it was very windy and the wind was practically trying to blow me off the road so I wasn't wanting to go much faster. I've hit 115 a couple times and yes it took a while (I'm guessing a mile or so) but it wasn't that hard. Just gotta leave it out of OD.
BTW, according to the overhead console computer I was still getting 7mpg at 115.

I don't know mine isn't that fast but It does have power until it gets to overdrive then it doens't seem to have any. Without OD it redlines it though.

I do have 64k miles on it and haven't done the dist. cap and rotor and inginition wires like I was supposed to at 60k so maybe that has something to do with it but I doubt it as it seems to be running fine.

About every 6 weeks or so I take my truck out and run it up to around 115-120 for about 3 miles just to clean it out. After I clean it out it seems to run better and it gets better gas mileage for a few days. My engine and tranny have 245,000 miles on them and I am a firm beleiver to doing this has helped keep my truck alive.

My guess is you have 4.10 gears, is that correct? If so that is why it would redline. I have 3.55s and yes OD sucks when it comes to power on top speed.

Back around Easter maybe I got mine up to 90 or so. Real stable, but I came up on another car and had to get out of it. This was on I-95 in North Carolina at about 3:00 AM. PA has spots where you can open it up a little, DE too, MD & VA you really have to watch it, then comes NC: The Hammer Down State! More or less straight, relatively flat, and in the middle of the night pitch black! I've even opened up the wifes mini-van down there.

dude. A 302 in a truck as light as a Ranger is not lame. I have seen quite a few high 12 sec 302 Rangers. It is beliveable.
