Timing Chain Sets
SO.
I Finally got down to the city and met up with a buddy who has a few more tools than I, as well as a grage. Some new tools I now own... A fan clutch pully holding tool, a 7 1/2'' Pully Puller, a broken strap wrench, and a bent fan clutch wrench. Oh, and a new socket for the impact.. 1 1/16" I think? for the crank.
This was a pretty easy job to do, I killed about 4 hours trying to find a fan clutch wrench that actually holds the pully. The 4 bolts on my pully where it recomends to hold are missing due to previous owner. Also don't use the fan clutch wrench to brake the nut loose, mine bent right away. We used a 20" adjustable insted.... first try worked.
An interesting thing I learned.... A new front crank seal is $30ish by itself, the fel-pro timing cover gasket set is $19 and includes a new front crank seal. Mine was leaky so I am glad I was able to change it. I also found a cracked vacume line over by the driver side fender well that I repaird and seems to have fixed an odd buzzing noise comming from under my dash at about 2000ish rpm under load... Cool.
On the down side, my Timing Cover looks like it has stress crackes on either side, in the center where the water pump blade spins, and on the timing chain side... No leaks but I may be doing this again soon to replace that. Also I did not get to the plenum repair, so In a few weeks I will tear into that. It's not causing problems as of now so it's not a big deal, I just ran out of weekend time.
Truck runs great! improvements are noticed, and I have some new knowlage of how to work on this thing.
