Default Build or buy need HP

I have a 1998 dodge ram 1500 4wd 5.2 and was wanting to get about 350hp or more out of this engine and not spend $300 here and there on cold air intakes and chip and all that other stuff which someone told me is hard to get that much hp out of that engine. I am trying to find a crate motor for it but cant find any where that carries them. Most of the ones i find have carburators on it. I was wanting to keep the fuel injection on it to try and keep it reliable and not have to change any of the wiring harness or vacuum lines and stuff. Is this impossible to do or can it be done. Is there a place you know of that would have what I am lookin for or am i gonna have to build it. If I have to build it info on the subject like compression ratio cam grinds heads and all that other stuff would be greatly appreciated because I am on kind of a tight budget I dont wanna buy something and end up needing something else.

I believe summit racing has a 360 hp and a 380 HP magnum. and yes they can be EFI. the best way to make that kind of power is expencive. ( believe me im trying. My goal is 400HP. ) I would say cam, R/T heads, bore and stroke the motor. and a turbo or supercharger. also rockers, TB, air intake.....

With 165K on the clock, I've been looking into engine options lately. My engine is in great shape right now (not even a single leak), but when the day comes that it needs replacing, I'll be building a stroker motor. I'd like to get 400 hp at the rear wheels, and the most cost effective way of meeting that goal seems to be a 408 ci. stroker. KRC Performance is a great source for the stroker motors. I think their site is www.krcperformance.com.

It isn't impossible, but it also isn't cheap.

Basically, everything mentioned above. Only change the R/T heads to R/T heads + extensive head work. Jegs also has complete crate short blocks (no heads or intake) (5.9l/360ci), but you're looking at around $1400 + shipping.

If your goal is 350hp, you're going to have to start thinking about forced induction or a different motor. At least a 360...or a bored 360. Or you could just swap in a V10

Another idea that's been dancing around in my head is swapping out the engine and trans for the 6.1L Hemi and it's tranny. Although it's the most labor intensive and not the most cost effective (the 5.7's with the tranny, t-case, wiring harness, and computer are going for between 3-5K on E-bay) it puts you around that 400 hp number, and with the MDS and 5-speed auto you're fuel mileage and engine life will be decent compared to a modded engine.

Why not take the eng you have make it sound and run a low boost supercharger kit .This combined with a solid eng will make for some nice HP .
