Default 96 Ram Auto...

Hey guys. My son is having issues, and I am not sure which trans he has to get parts. What would he have if you can help?

1996 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 with a 5.9l (360ci gas). It is an automatic w/OD.

Thanks in advance for help with which trans this is?

T

What's the production date of that truck? I have an early model 1996 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 with a 5.9 magnum engine and my transmission is a 46RH. 1996 seems to be a cutover year to the 46RE transmission, as some early trucks in 1996 have the 46RH.

I was also thinking the 46RE, but just wanted to be sure. As far as early/late production, not sure. I told him to get me the VIN so we can figure it all out. We're having to get a Gov Pressure solenoid, sensor, output speed sensor and all those fun little gadgets, and just want to be sure we get the right ones. Are all those valve body sensors and things the same between the RE, and the RH? Or what else is the difference between the two?

Quick easy way to tell: Look at the connector that goes straight down into the trans, about halfway back. 3 pin is RH, 8 pin is RE.

Awesome. I'll check that to figure it out. Thanks all.

Connector is on the drivers side. (just thought I should mention that.)
