Differences between Dana 60 and Dana 60HD rear differential?
Well, the disc brake rear differential I recently picked up looks to be a Dana 60 HD out of a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4. After pulling the inspection cover off, it looks like the pinion bearing failed. The 3.55 ring and pinion is broken up, along with the spider gears. I'm planning on installing a good used 4.10 ring and pinion in it, along with all new bearings, seals and a Power Lock unit. The unit I'm going to remove is a drum brake Dana 60 rear with 3.55 and 30 spline Power lock.
Does anyone know the differences between a Dana 60 and a Dana 60 HD?

uhhh Idk if i have a 60HD but i got a 60 out of a 02 2500 4x4 with disc brakes.
Not too sure if they are the same but as i recall when i pulled the BOM it looked like a typical 30 spline dana 60 to me
not much help there......

listen to this dude
Thanks for the added info. I'll pull an axle shortly to see if its a 35 or 30 spline axle. That fully dressed differential sure is heavy!
BTW, it looks like the inspection cover is deeper than a standard Dana 60 inspection cover to allow for more oil capacity.

Put up a picture of the 60HD stamp on the webbing.
Carrier bearings most likely will be larger that std 60, while everything else is std 60 parts. Of course getting the BOM would be the story teller assuming no mods/changes done to it.

I think finding the BOM on some of the weirder Dana models can be a real challenge.
I found my rear in the database easy.
But my front 60 did not exist according to spicers website. Or I could just not find it.
However, quad 4x4 listed under their site in the Dana 60 section.
It is definetly the place to start with.
