can i put a diesel engine in 1995 dodge ram 1500?
Hi guys. My husband and I have two question. First what year did the first 24 valve motor come out? Second, how can we replace our current engine with a diesel? Any info would be helpful. Thanks guys!
The 24v Cummins came out mid year 1998. The 12v would be a better choice for your 1995. The 24v is computer controlled and the 12v is mechanical, meaning the 12v would be a much easier swap.
Actually, a 4BT swap would be the easiest diesel that you could do. In order to go with the 12v or the 24v, you'd have to swap the axles out of your Ram 1500 and go with some DANA 60 axles to handle the extra weight. The 4BT engine is 4 cylinder diesel instead of 6, so it's lighter and won't require an axle swap.
If you really want the 5.9 Cummins (12v or 24v), it might be easiest to swap trucks.
