I recently put a 95 rear end in my 98 Ram. Same 3.55 ratio in both. The speed sensor on top are different so I put my 98 sensor in the 95 rear. Drove it and the brake and abs light came on and the cruise dont work. Also it was leaking rear end grease out.
After putting in a new o ring and trying silicone it still leaked.
I put the 95 sensor back in and no more leaks but the brake abs lights still on and no cruise.
I replaced the senson on back of trans but didnt fix issue.
Are the 95 and 98 rears different? Or an I not thinking of something. ..Thanks

Is your speedometer working? And is it some semblance of accurate?

Yes it works and seems accurate.

Then the sensor is doing its job. Apparently.

Do you have an output speed sensor on the tailshaft of the t-case on yours? (or, trans, if you don't have 4wd.)

The 98 rear end has a tone ring in it for your Speedo

But your 95 ram runs the Speedo off of a gear on the t case.

Wait I have that backwards, 95 rear in 98 ram.....

Your cruise isn't working because you have a brake light code on.

94 and up, (and probably earlier) all have the sensor on the rear diff.... I *think* the tooth count changed at least once though, but, not sure what year that was. May have been 96........

If this is true, this would make since.
The reason I made the swap was because I was in a wreck and hit a culvert with the rear tire and snapped off the axle, broke the wheel, and blew out the tire. So instead of replacing the axle and drum brake assembly, I just put in a whole rear end. I was worried and about the housing being bent.
Maybe ill just put the 98 rear back in with the axle and brake assembly from the 95 rear

Make sure the housing itself isn't bent, if that's ok, transfer the parts you need, and toss it back in.
