Ive read the stickys and other threads before posting this trying to find the info...I have a 01 ram 1500 automatic 4x4 with 5.2l and 3.55 stock gears..I would like to possibly install a 3.92 or 4.10 in it..I do 80% city driving so the slight loss on highway I can deal with..I know these trucks came with the 3.55 and the 3.92 stock. Can I buy a set of used 3.92 and install them outright? Same with 4.10? I dont want to mess with replacing carrier and entire axle rebuild..just swap rings is all id like to do...if the 3.92 or 4.10 will bolt right in I may buy a used set from someone on the forum ive seen guys selling them on here....

Your going to need a carrier regardless unless you find a donor truck with the 3.92 ratio. These trucks have a carrier split and I think it's 3.92 and larger need a diff carrier than 3.55. You are going to need installation kits for each diff regardless if you buy new or used (roughly $100 a diff). Off road editions came with 4.10 but it would probably be easier to just go out and buy new gear sets unless you can find a set on here.

So in the gen 2 stock..if it came with 3.55 or 3.92 they used the same carrier a 3.73? If so I should be able to buy a set of 3.92 which I believe are thick cut gears..could I do that? I read up on it but get confused on how they word it up too and below numerically... just dont understand how they are explaining it..so back to my question can I put 3.92 ring and pinion in my dana 44 front and 9.25 rear without changing the carrier or do I have to change the carrier too?

Wednesday and NOW Thursday = spoon feed days?? ![Stick Out Tongue](https://dodgeforum.com/forum/images/smilies/tongue.gif)
Only a carrier split on the dana 44, which was answered by Thornloe.
Chrysler 9.25 has no split.
A couple spoon links....for you.

Go search and search here as there are people that have regeared and state the options and cost and labor....

Setting up used gears is about 10 times harder than setting up new gears. Do you know how to setup gears? How to set the backlash and get the correct contact patterns? I'd be willing to bet a D44 is using the correct carrier for 3.92 gears. If you don't know how to setup gears you'd be better off to buy complete axles like White Knuckle is selling and just swap those in.
