Default 01 5.9 Transmission question

Hey guys, I just purchased an 01 1500 with the 5.9. It has 4x4. Only 120K miles. runs great except from 1st to 2nd it doesn't want to shift. Took it to the dealer and they said it was Low pressure in transmission on low speed side. Supposedly there is an oring and it has partially failed not building up enough pressure to switch gears. I have to rev it up to 3K or so, hold it steady, then it'll shift. Anyone have an suggestions? dealer said tranny would have to be taken out and rebuilt.

Also, my door lock switch doesn't work on either side, any idea what that could be? Truck runs and rides great, all stock. If I can get the trans fixed I'd like to do something about increasing mpg.

Also is faded quiet a bit, but I can live with that.

If the dealer recommends rebuild, then it probably needs to be rebuilt. Door switch contacts can become corroded. Mine were. Popped them out and cleaned the contacts and they worked like a charm. Not much you can do about increasing MPG that much other than use a light foot.

thanks on the door contacts, I'll check them, where are the contacts located? In door panel I would assume.

Dealer said that it could run like that forever or go anytime, didn't really suggest a rebuild.

I had the same issue. I dropped the pan and found a band anchor in pan. That was related to the same issue you have could not shift from fisrt to second. I would drop pan and do a adjustments to bands. Maybe change Pressure solenoid. If band anchor is in pan you need to drop valve body to put back in. Dodge recommends you adjust bands twice before 100K. Good luck

Default front band

I recently had the same problem. No/delayed shift from 1 to 2. Once it got into 2nd the rest of the shifting was fine. Turned out the front band was shot. WIT, whatever it takes transmissions, carries a slip-in replacement. You have to drop the VB but seems an relative simple fix. Good luck,Greg.

better MPG get a 4 banger. LOL!!!
