I used permatex copper seal which is for exhaust flanges and manifolds on my flanges when i put my shorties on, no exhaust tick so far. Worth a shot, get it in the tube not the spray can.

cool, I'll give the permatex a try. i think ill have to take the headers off though, headers had to be put in first before bolted up

I forgot to mention i had a leak at the flange which is why i got the permatex. Im surprised you have a leak if the flanges lined up good? maybe theres an imperfection with the y pipe flange?(gasket maker/dressing is good for filling in imperfections). mine were a pita to line up Lol.
I looked in my haynes manual and it says to torque the exhaust pipe flange nuts to 24 ft-lbs but to be honest, i used my 3/8 impact and tightened them up a lot more then that after i let the permatex dry for 30 mins. Hope this helps.

yeah i don't understand why it leaks either. hopefully the permatex will seal it up. you put it on the flared end of the y pipe or the collector for the header? next step is finding 8 bucks to go get a tube (college sucks lol)

I put it on the flared end of the y pipe, you can honestly put it on either or on both ends which maybe better to make sure it seals up nice. Ahhh college, i skipped that cause i had enough of school Lol!

yeah tell me about it! thank god i only am doing two years, and its my last year. let me tell you though General aviation is a lot easier to work on than cars lol. hoping to go pick up a tube today (hopefully won't need more than one). i just hope i can get my y pipe lined back up. if not i guess open headers it is. how long did you let the stuff sit before you used it again?

It struck me as rather strange that the GA mechanics around here were making about 2/3rds what automotive mechanics were........ considering the consequences of doing something wrong on an aircraft........ one would think they would be paid better. (and need malpractice insurance?)

just thought of something, headers came with two round donut looking things. didn't seem to fit right on the collector, are those supposed to go on? directions didn't specify. but yeah even if i will end up making less, less frustration is worth the pay cut haha.

don't remember how to post pictures, but my old ones didn't have them and didn't leak at the y pipe, I put the permatex around both headers, couldn't get a good angle on the flared end. Didn't help at all. so i'm not sure what to do now. Didn't pay $400 to have the exact same problem i did with the old ones
