Ram air is a useless sales gimmick. Sorry, it just annoys me to see things advertised as "ram air". You have to be going 98+ mph in order for the ram air effect to actually occur. The only positive is that it gets cooler air into the intake. Not worth the extra money in my opinion, as most aftermarket intakes (like the K&N) position the filter quite a ways away from the motor in the first place.
The K&N FIPK (Fuel Injection Performance Kit) is the best one out there...no matter what the vehicle is. You can find them for around $200 on ebay (that's for the V10 intakes). I'm sure the V8 intakes cost a little bit less.

Ram air can help out but how much air are you going to be ramming on the trail in low gear crawling up a hill.
Perhaps the trans-am can use it or a crotch rocket. But a lumbering 5000 pound truck needs more airflow in the throttlebody. You can see below the size dif of the stock airbox and the k&n. Look inside the stock airbox and you see how small the air chamber is. More air is good!

K&N K&N K&N K&N K&N u can mod alot on it too.. like insulate the heat sheild and the air intake tube to help out... i noticed more a difference when i just had the cai and then insualted it..
