I second the low refrigerant, I know mine is low. Filled it up over the summer, and worked good for just about 3 weeks after that nothing, must have all leaked out and just never got around to filling it up again.

I want to thank everyone on the forum. It is going to be above 75 today so I am going to turn the a/c on and see if it short cycles. Misplaced my adaptors for the gauges. Santa are you listening?

Turn up the radio and leave it plugged in. you will need the A/C before the week is out.

Mine likes to do the exact same thing, I read on another forum (Can't quite remember which one it was) that it is completely normal for the ac compressor to cycle on and off when defrost mode, or a split flow (as in to head and feet ect) is selected but should not cycle when just head or feet is selected.

I just posted the exact same question here a couple days ago (whoops, didn't see this thread) and got the same answer. I normally run my vents on split flow, so yesterday I tried using only the dash vents (no floor vents) and the AC clutch did not engage a single time. So, it does appear to be operating the way you described.

My refrigerant also leaks. And I had this occur this morning after leaving my windows open last night and the air was very moist fogging the windows. So I turned on the heater and defrost to clear the windows and get the moisture out. I did in fact go out and change the slector and it operated as stated above. If you do in fact disconnect the compressor, will the defrost still operate? I only as before I go ahead and disconnect it and if it is not going to work properly I will simply put in more refrigerant. Hard to believe I did not notice this in the last 25 years. LOL

If you do in fact disconnect the compressor, will the defrost still operate?
Vents will work but no cold air.
