Default Hi pitch whine!!

I just started to get a hi pitch whine from my motor chesked it out today and I narrowed it down but didn't find it. it sounds like its coming from the intake, thought a vacuum leak. couldn't find one checked tps iac and a new tb gasket still no change. put on the stethoscope and it is definatly coming from somewhere in the intake. I did a hughes plenum kit last summer so it souldnt be that. Oh and it sounds like its coming from the top rear area of the intake . Any ideas?

There is a guy on YouTube that recorded his Intake/Plenum gasket repair. He had done the job 9 months earlier and had to do it again. Remove the Throttle Body and look for the telltale oil.

Here's the video referenced...is this what your squeal sounds like?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Jf25rq-T9E

My plenum gasket failed after installing the Hughes kit...it turns out a couple of the plenum bolts had backed out, despite my best effort to torque them all in sequence and to spec. I used thread locker the second time and have not had any issues since.

Aside from the squeal, and oil in the bottom of the intake, another telltale sign for me was vacuum in the crankcase. Before making my repair for the second time, I noticed that if I removed the breather hose that connects the passenger side valve cover to the air filter housing, there was an incredible amount of vacuum in that hose. I disconnected and capped the PCV hose to eliminate that as a source of vacuum and still had the same symptom, which confirmed that plenum gasket was allowing crankcase air to get sucked into the intake.

For your sake, I hope that's not what's going on with your truck....but I would not rule it out simply because you have already installed the Hughes kit. That's what I thought, too.

Good luck!

DodgefanMP... If that is your set of 5 video segments, thanks. It was the best how to video I have seen to-date. It made me decide to not take off my Intake manifold to change my CPS... I created a access hole in the firewall/tunnel instead. A little extra tin work, but very effective. If I ever have to replace it again, it will take about 15 minutes.

Aw shucks, thanks! I am admittedly a novice at wrenching, and have learned most of what I know about my truck right here on this site, so my videos are all made with the sole intent of "paying it forward" to try to help out someone else in return for the help I've gotten here. I'm glad to hear you found them helpful. And, I really like your idea of the access panel through the firewall to access the CPS. Do you have a photo of that?
