First step would be to drop the pan, and see what things look like in there. The factory governor pressure solenoid is NOT self-cleaning..... and when it starts clogging, you get some interesting results. I would be tempted to simply replace the solenoid/sensor set, adjust the bands, change fluid and filter, and see if that doesn't improve its attitude.
