Default Something leaking?

It looks like I have a leak where the oil filter screws on. The oil filter screws on to what looks like an aluminum or steel mounting flange. It is not part of the cast block so can this thing be removed and resealed?
It appears to coolant.

This is on my 1998 2500 4X4 with the 5.9L gas engine.

Any help is appreciated.

If it's coolant, see if it's coming from one of the core plugs.

Checked the core plugs, no leaks. The only area that looks wet is around the oil filter.

No coolant down there, unless the block is cracked. There IS a freeze plug right above it though, I do believe.

As the others have told you there is no way you can have coolant down by the oil filter unless a freeze plug is leaking or the block is cracked. Your best bet is to get some dye for the cooling system and get the kit that has the light and glasses so you can see the dye. Most auto part stores carry it or you can get the stuff off Summit or Jegs. Then you can use that to figure out where the leak is coming from.

I have my engine torn down so I can take a picture of that area if you would like.

Well I hope I don not have a cracked block. Wildman if you could put up some pics of that I would appreciate it.
Thank you all.

Just got done reading the 43 pages from Wildman's thread, wow, a lot going on. Hope all ends well for you. Now I'm hooked and can't wait for this 408 to fire up.

I'm getting a little excited about it too. Just need the weather to warm up just a little.

Thanks for the info on the die kit. I am familiar with these, I have used them to find leaks in refrigeration equipment.

I looked all around that area again and it still appears to be coming out around that plate where the oil filter screws on. Anyone know how those things are attached or installed when the block is being made?

Here is the area around the oil filter. The cover there is held on with a threaded pipe type fitting.

I'm going to look for anymore pictures.
