How do id my trans if the tag isnt on it anymore? I have a 96 ram 2wd standard tranny

 

By Standard, you mean manual? Should be the NV3500 trans, which was only available with the 5.2 engine. My understanding is all 1996 5.9 liter 1500's came with the auto transmission, the 46re. If you have a manual 2500 truck with the 5.9, then it should be a NV4500 (I could be wrong about this one, but I'm pretty sure on the others).

The changeover from 46rh to 46re was in97ish

 

Just FYI, I have an early production date '96 Ram 2500 and it came with a 46RH.

 

Ok, mine's a 97, so I have the 46RE. I wonder what tranny HeyYou has, his is a 1996.
