Default New Ram owner question

I was wonder if anybody can give me a idea what I might get for MPG with a 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 5.9 gas engine automatic tranny if I were to put 3:55 axles in it? I am looking for fuel mileage not worried about towing. I would do very limited local towing if any at all. I have a chance to get truck extremely reasonable in price so figured I can spend a few bucks to set it up the way I want it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I will be new to the Dodge ram owners.

Is that an Off-Road Edition you are looking at? If so, don't bother changing the gears. It won't make a noticeable difference. Probably 12-14 around town, 16-18 on the Freeway.

The fuel mileage will also depend on when the last engine tune-up was and if the plenum gasket has been appropriately fixed. If the truck has more than 100k miles, the gasket is likely on its way out. I changed mine when my truck had around 90k miles on it - mine had started to let oil seep into the intake manifold and pool at the back.

IMO, 12-14 around town is being pretty optimistic...I see 10-11 mpg all day around town and around 13-15 on the highway...and my engine is in tip-top shape with 98k on it now. I have 4.10 gears and 33" tires.

I have a 2 wheel drive and it only gets 11-13 city and 15-17 highway, so if your only driving it because you like 4 wheel drive trucks, you better have deep pockets.
