46RE - Rebuild or Buy Reman?
.
Getting ready to get tranny work done on the '98. Just trying to decide which route to take. The tech at my local stealership says a reman would be the best route to go, because the warranty is longer than a rebuild.
A local AAMCO guy disagrees, saying that a rebuild would be easier and take less time. Not sure what he means by that, cause seems to me doing a pull and replace sounds alot quicker than a rebuild. He says it would be a two-day turn-around. About $2K or less.
I'd definately have a shift kit installed either way, as well as a temp gauge.
What's the concensus?

yes, I still say go this route... http://www.apsprecision.com/ they have bullet proof tranny's available. also get a deep pan for extra fluid capacity. not sure who has them but there was a recent thread here on it. aps I think also has pre-built valve bodies available.
I had my transmission rebuilt about 1 year ago now. It shifts better than it did new. I did not have dodge do it though because they put the same crappy stuff back in. I have had friends that had trouble with Amcco so be carefull there. One guy had the tranny rebuilt there and they forgot to fill the tranny with fluid. Needless to say it was not working very well and they had to do it over. I would find a place you are comfortable with and ask as many questions as possible. Also, a shift kit is a must as well as an external cooler. I was going to go the route of the APS tranny but just ended up rebuilding the current one. If you go APS amke sure to get one of their TCs as well.

We're thinking that the early snow-plow duty lead to the early tranny failure.
We'll see what they find out tomorrow during their diagnosis.

Just my opinion, I would go and have your rebuilt. You can pick the parts you want installed, if you want heavier clutch packs, or perfomace valve body, you can get that. If you get a already built one, you dont know what you got. Or if you go remaned, get one from a proven place that will build to your spec's. Just my .02
