Wink Transmission cooler

So my tranny is newish less then 10k on her. ive got a 97, so i think its the 46re. Im just curious since coolers are cheap if it would make any difference on the life on the new one if there was a cooler on there. I pretty much baby it as it is but if i can keep it going a little longer its worth the $100. if so any recommendations on a cooler thanks

Yes the cooler you can keep the tranny fluid the longer it will last. And by keeping the fluid good you'll keep the parts inside the tranny will last longer. But also you always get what you pay for so if you buy a cheap cooler you run the chance of having issues. Spend a little more and get a quality cooler as it will cool better and last longer.

How long did your transmission last before you had to replace/rebuild? I just had the trans on my truck rebuilt at 200,000 miles. I thought about adding an aftermarket cooler, but if the thing lasted 200,000 miles without one, adding one now won't make much of a difference. Now, if you tow/haul regularly, it would make a difference. It IS possible to overcool a transmission too.

I thought all of our trucks came with either the air cooler or the built in radiator cooler from the factory. Did they make some without the cooler?

I think they all have the integral radiator cooler. Some came with an air cooler between the radiator and AC.

the trans went out around 140k-150k right before i bought it, the previous owner repaired it and then sold it to me. I bought the truck with 155k on it last february and she has 162k on her now. I dont drive too much except back in forth to work, but keep in mind its literally all town driving and quite a few steep hills.

Stock cooler should be adequate to the task for you. Do you have the aux cooler between the radiator, and condenser?

Hey You...does your truck have the factory cooler with the "anti-flow back/check valve" mounted inline on one of the passenger side transmission lines?
I seem to remember some chatter out here about that valve getting gummed up and/or stuck. What was the outcome of those discussions in your opinion?

Mine used to have it. Not any more. I replaced that particular section of line with some hose, and a couple clamps. No problems with it. I also have the aux cooler. (3/4 ton truck with HD package)

I think the valve was a silly idea, and dodge could have come up with a much better solution......
