Default Shift indicator adjustment

Aloha Friday to all,
I can't seem to take up the slack on the cable with the adjusting wheel for the shift indicator. I have the plastic clip on the steering column secured and I'm sure it's on correctly, but I think I'm missing something. Is there a rubber grommet that slips over the arm where the cable attaches? Any ideas what I might be missing? Pictures would help.

Thanks

If you don't have one already, download the appropriate service manual for your year truck from this thread. Procedure for adjusting it is in there, and, some good pics.

Thanks Hey, I looked there and will try again. Ill have to expand my search, I might be looking in the wrong section.
On another note, that service manual really helped me figure out my IOD problem with the SBCM drain. I didn't realize the electric lock circuit plays an important role in the BCM timing system. Aloha

Hey, I found it in the steering chapter. Thanks.
I still don't understand why I have so much play in the cable. I'll remove the instrument cluster and check the cable from the top.
Aloha

On my 1998 i took the lower dash panel off below the steering wheel and there was a white **** next to the steering column that turned both ways to line up the gear indicator, it should take up some slack. There is a write up in the faq/diy/ how to section called DIY - dashboard gear indicator fix.

Thanks for all your suggestions.
The problem was the shift indicator cable slipped off the slide in the bezel when it was removed 3 months ago. I missed it when I replaced it last week.
Aloha
