No switching signal to coil.
Put your test light across the pins on the coil connector. Pull the fuel pump relay so your aren't flooding the cylinders.
PCM fires the coil by opening the ground side of the circuit. (coil fires when magnetic fields created by current flow collapse, when the circuit is broken) One wire is constant power, (controlled by ASD relay, that's why it goes away after three seconds) other wire is the ground wire going to the PCM.

I have a 4.7 Dakota with two wire ignition coil and I keep getting the same ignition coil circuit open code, I’ve moved wiring and wiggled it around and fixes nothing and all continuity test pass I have 12v at the coil for 3 seconds after I turn the key on. I know the two ignition coil wires are bare and touched for a second but surely that didn’t short the pin on the pcm, truck still starts and runs fine except that
And bring up a 10 year old thread.......
Post in the correct section for what you are driving, TELL US what you are driving, (including the year....) and what troubleshooting you have already done.....

because in all the forums I’ve looked at this is the first that’s even close to having the same issues. I’ve looked and looked. Didn’t realize it was gonna be that big of a difference for a DODGE Dakota and a DODGE ram that use the same motors trannys, computers wiring harness

Bringing up a 10 year old thread is a violation of forum etiquette. More often than not, the folks posting in decade old threads aren't even around any more.
What YEAR is your truck? A fair bit changed over the years..... so yes, it makes a difference......
2nd gens never got the 4.7......

Do you only have one coil? Or is it one per cylinder.

I posted there as well.
