The truck is a 95 ram 1500. 5.2 V8. I will have to look for this tag tomorrow, but I am skeptical of doing anything off the VIN because the further in to this truck I get I find more and more the previous owner molested and switched.

They most likely need the tire size and gear ratio for the speedo calibration. Just out of curiosity, wht do you need a custom pcm?

If the rear gear was changed most likely the tag will be missing. You can just look under the hood for the option sheet. It will tell you the gear and if it's a lsd.

So get one of these $300 or less and get the right speedo gear for the tranny. No programing is needed to adjust the speedo on a truck 97 and under it is done by changing the gear in the tailshaft housing.

P5249546 Engine Controller (1994–95 5.9L ATX Ram) best bang for you truck, they take to mods great, love them. Yes I use one have for 19 years.

The truck has a redone block that's bored over, a high lift cam, extra thick casting heads, a rebuilt tranny, an upgraded exhaust and cold air intake on it. All of these are things I have replaced and with te motor build it started to become more and not run depth than I was thinking. The motor works and everything but the cam forces the truck to have a very rough idle and often stalls and does not have the full power t should. A mechanic came to check it out and tried to adjust timing, distributor, plugs and wires, etc and says the only thing left to do is to re do the computer system. Unfortunately all the local performance shops and hemifever could not do my model and pointed me to Arrington performance who i supposedly the only person who can reflash my pcm to fit my truck and help it achieve the power it should be putting out. I have already put thousands into the motor build alone and I really want something that will work properly with the rest of the parts

Also te company asks for all sorts of info from my tires to fuel pump to transmission components, etc. I know most of these but I am asking about the several I do not know or know how to check. Also does anyone have a link to a calculator that could figure what my expected whp and wtq would be

Timing is not adjustable, tuning the PCM is the only option there. Turning the distributor only changes INJECTOR timing, does nothing to the ignition.

What other information do they want, that you don't have?

I think comp cams has 'desktop dyno'.... or, you can just search on that term, and find a download easily enough.

OBD 1's are limited to mod. If it where me i would swap the pcm and related wiring/sensors to a OBD2. Possibly go with an aftermarket controller such as mega squirt. My $.02

In all reality, this IS a viable option. Upgrading to a 96-97 OBDII system would be fairly simple.... PCM and wiring harness is it. Can't go newer, as too much else changed for it to be a viable swap.

If i was to upgrade to the OBDII would I run into the same issue I am now, given many of the compnonents are not stock. I've been told this PCM flash would allow the extra power to be created, but wouldn't upgrading to another stock system still limit my power?
