Default Engine Speed

Wife just got the 01 Ram 2500 with 5.9 engine and auto. She let me drive it to run into town and I noticed something. At 65 mph with OD turned the tach is reading about 1100 rpm. Is this normal? My Blazer shows about 2500 for same thing. Just curious.

Comparing apples to oranges. Many things affect rpm at cruise speed. If it runs fine then it runs fine. My Eclipse turns almost 3000 RPM's at 70, my truck is about 1200 at the same speed.

Does your Blazer have overdrive? Lot to factor in to rpm to mph, od ratio, axle ratio and tire size.

wow thats crazy low in my opinion. my 5.9 with 35" tires and 3:55 gears, im still gettin about 1600rpm in OD at 65mph. since its the 2500, you could have 3:21s and possibly i think they made a 3:05...gear ratio so i wouldnt worry about it, just has some towing gears in it.
