Hi,

I am new the the forum.

I have a 2001 Ram 2500 with the V10. I need to replace the u-joints and also the center/carrier bearing on the driveshaft. My question is, do you have to take off the bracket that holds the bearing? I have the service manual. When reading it, it only says to remove the 2 bolts holding the bearing. My problem is that I have the style bearing that bolts through the top of the bearing. Not the the type with the tabs. I can't see how I could fit a wrench, let alone an impact gun in there to remove the bolts. The exhaust is on one side and the gas tank is in the way on the other side. It looks like the only easy way to do it would be to remove the bracket that holds the bearing to the cross member.

Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated.

Do it the easy way. If dropping the entire bracket makes the job easier, do it that way.

I don't see any other way of doing it. I am pretty sure those bolts are going to be rusted in there.

 

Of course they are. Consider where they hang out......

PB Blaster will be your best friend. Soak the bolts a couple times a day, for a couple days, before you try and pull 'em.
