Default Tail Light Wiring

I have a 2001 Ram 2500. Before I bought the truck, it had a flat bed on it. The original wiring harness connections were cut off. The previous owners removed the flat bed and cut the wiring off the bed. I am now trying to sort it out to install my trailer towing connector. I will be having my new flat bed installed on monday.

In the rear of the truck there is a large wire loom. At the end of the loom there is a "y" with a smaller wire loom coming out. In the large portion there are all of the correct color wires for connecting to a 7 pin trailer jack. The smaller loom has the following 2 Black with a yellow stripe, 2 black, a Violet or purple with a black stripe and a brown or gray with a pink stripe. I am guessing these went directly to the rear tail lights?

I am confused as to if the larger loom goes directly to the trailer connection and the small one went to the tail lights?

Any help would be appreciated.

Grab the factory service manual from the FAQ/DIY section. It's got schematics and connector locators that will make life much easier for you.

I have the Factory Service Manual. I wasn't able to figure it out. In the manual, it looks like there was 3 connectors at the end of the harness. Like I said, the connectors have all been cut off.

How far back does it Y off? Is it possible that you are looking at where the harness separates for the left/right side lights??

^that is what I thought from his description. Even the Haynes manual has decent wiring diagrams for back there. I think it's Diagram 46. I just added LEDs brake/tail/reverse lights.

The split is about 6-10" from the end of the larger loom. Like I said before, the ends were cut off. So It could have been longer at one time.

Violet with black is back-up lights.

Black/Yellow is License plate lamp, and tail lights.

Brown/Red eventually goes to the right turn signal, but, it changes color at connector 329...... which is supposed to be below the right tail lamp. (why there is a connector there, within a foot or so of the tail lamp, is beyond me.)

You seem to be missing the left turn signal wire though....
