Engine Swap 5.9 to 5.2
I have a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 with the 5.9. It got to where it wasn't carrying much oil pressure and was knocking pretty bad. I got a remanufactured 5.2 cheaper than I could get another 5.9. My question is what can I reuse from the 5.9 and what will I have to get? Such as flexplate, PCM, harmonic balancer, and torque converter. Info on this would be greatly appreciated.

You need a flex plate and harmonic balancer for a 5.2. You will need to have your PCM flashed or buy a PCM for a 5.2. The torque converter can be used on the new engine as it doesn't have any weights on it. Pretty much everything else should swap over.
You are of course going to get a few who are going to ask WHY????? You are going to notice a loss of power going from the 5.9 to a 5.2 so as long as you're prepared for that.

Thanks for the info and I know theres a difference but I've looked at the HP and torque specs and the 5.9 isn't really any more powerful than than the 5.2. The 5.9 is rated at 245hp and 345 lb-ft. The 5.2 is rated at 225hp and 300 lb-ft. There is only a 20 HP difference so I'm not too worried.
20 hp IS a noticeable difference, BUT, wonder what kind of power output you are getting from the old, tired, 5.9 at this point anyway. Good chance the new motor will actually have MORE power.....
