Default Is it worth it?

Not sure if this is the right forum but my trans went on my 99 dodge ram. So i have been searching for a new transmission the shop wants more now since my last quote of $2900 now its $3400 so i figure ill just buy a beat up truck and swap my body over. I found a 6cyl 24valve diesel bed is missing so are both bumpers miss matched hood fenders and doors. He wants $3500. Engine has 333000 miles and trans has 180000 what do you guys think since i know diesels last longer but I'm not sure how long. Thanks.

Not really familiar with diesels so not sure if it's worth it or not but if you just end up getting your trans rebuilt you can get a viper for that much http://www.transmissioncenter.net/dodge.htm

Skip the other truck. Too much missing, and that trans isn't much longer for this world either. Get a good trans from PATC, never worry about it again.

I hate to be a fanboi, but I loves my Mega Viper. It allows me to drive happy.

Was just browsing the sale ads across a few mopar sites and ran across this deal for new old stock 46re's for $1000 from the dealership- http://www.dakotart.com/forum/showth...000-from-dodge Not positive it would fit but for the price think it is worth checking out. I'm tempted to get one and just keep it for a spare.
