Moving to the correct section. Welcome to DF.

You added 10W-40 to the steering reservoir? Clean everything up and look for the leak.

. Looking for ideas on how to fix the power steering. The guy spliced using a coupler and keeps spraying. Every place has to order the part. Three to five days to get in.its the one with metal half square on one side, is that the return.

Are there clamps on the coupler that you can tighten? Maybe add a couple more hose clamps while you wait for the part to come in?

I'd be scared to death to have motor oil in my power steering pump -- I've experienced the sheer terror of a hung metering valve. It was during the tail of the Friday afternoon rush hour on the 405 freeway in Los Angeles, and my '68 Coronet went from the end of the Century Boulevard on-ramp straight to the center divider. I put everything I had into pulling the steering wheel away from full lock, had my entire body lifted out of the seat and my legs wedged under the dash for leverage, but didn't budge the thing a fraction of an inch. I didn't dare to brake because doing so would have involved one or more other vehicles in my own personal wreck, so the car hit the concrete divider at about 50MPH. This was in the days before air bags, and the Coronet had only lap belts, so it was just shy of a miracle that none of the three of us in the car was seriously hurt.

If it were my truck with motor oil in the power steering system, it'd be parked and while awaiting parts I'd be flushing the ever-lovin' 5h17 out of the steering gearbox to get the last molecule that motor oil out of there.

Pics would be a great help! If it's the thicker of the two it's the pressure side. The return line any parts store should have something you could use. You can try looking for a place that makes hydraulic hoses near you they can make one while you wait.
