Clogged CAT, Blown Plenum, Bad O2 Sensors
So I know my plenum is blown, that's gonna get fixed this summer but I also am pretty sure my cat is clogged. So somebody told me to remove the front O2 sensor. Is that the right thing to do and hows it gonna help? Also I am gonna redo the exhaust manifolds and everything but this year I only have money to redo the plenum, cat and sensors. However I want to get the exhaust ready for the new long tube manifolds so how would you do it so all I have to do is through in the new manifolds.
Removing the front O2 sensor is just a test for a clogged cat. You really don't wanna drive it that way. (if the cat is indeed clogged, removing the O2 sensor gives the exhaust someplace to go, so the engine will run a bit better.)
If the cat is clogged, then you need to address that. Hollow it out, or replace it. (hollow it out untill you can do the plenum, etc.)
Going to long tubes is going to REQUIRE some exhaust modifications, that you won't be able to do until you are actually ready to install the headers. Pacesetter makes a y-pipe for their longtubes, that has the potential to make installation easier..... No provision for a cat though..... (simple matter to just get a single-in, single-out cat, and splice it into the pipe though.)
