A common problem with manual trans.. I've got a 2001, does the same as yours. The reverse light switch plugs into the trans. and the internal switch actuator wears to a point where it can't actuate switch. Some have added manual switch to dash to activate reverse lights.

Thats good to know because my dad has a 95 with the same problem. Do you know how much a new switch would cost and about where it is located on the trans?

From what I've read new switch may not fix. The part that contacts the switch actuator is part of the trans., and wears enough you can't pull lever back far enough to make switch.

Currently my entire life BLOWS so I look at the BU light problem as a little breeze. In the spring I'm thinking about riging a set of driving lights to the *** end of the truck along with one of those pimpy back up "dingers" since I nearly backed over a couple of rugrats on separate occasions this summer.
