Default 1998 PU w/318 fuel flooding

I have a fuel flooding issue. Mileage is down to 7.3 mpg. I have black soot in the tail pipe, with grey smoke coming out. Cylinders 7 &8 frequently foul with fuel deposits every 3-4 tank fulls. There is a slight to moderate power loss going on proportional to the amount of deposits on the spark plug’s ceramic. It has a fresh and complete tune done properly. My motor is equipped with throttle base injection. The problem is I can’t find the cause of the flooding issue. I can also be reached directly at donparadowski@yahoo.com

Should be multi-port fuel injection.....

How is your temp gauge behaving? CEL on? Have you fixed the plenum yet?

@ schmidtp

Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, timed, & engine oil.

@ HeyYou

Temp gauge is doing fine around 190F. No to the plenum chamber. How does one fix a plenum? CEL ! ! ! The idiot light? Are you talking about the “check engine” light? If so, yes but it keeps coming back on.

This may be your problem.

You can check to see how bad it is by taking your intake off, opening up the throttle body, and looking down into with a flashlight. If it is full of oil the plenum needs to be replaced.

What do you mean when you say
You timed it?
Distributor controls fuel sync.
PCM does timeing.
If you turned the distributor that is
probably your problem.

I think you have a bad injector/s. Get the fuel pressure tested and see how fast it drops when the pump is off.
