Default tire hits upper outside edge of ball joint

have a 2001 dodge sport 1500 with 305 - 70r 17. it seems that when on a bumpy road that the inside of the tire is rubbing the upper edge of the ball joint. when installed 1/8" washers and that helped but need to fix. im thinking maybe the ball joint is going bad but theres no play that i can feel. any help would be appreciated....

Didn't 2001 still have 16" wheels as OEM? I suspect those 17" may have been add-ons.

That's what I was thinking also, I think they jumped up to 18 and 20 inch on the 3rd gen trucks in ( what was it ) 2005 . Or he just fat fingered the key board.

Are the wheels factory Dodge wheels or aftermarket wheels? If they are aftermarket wheels, how wide are the wheels and what is the backspacing?
